MAN OF GOD BARES ALL
From Sharecropper to Blessed/Envied Retiree

Rev. Dr. John Henry Womack hooks the reader on every word in his book entitled: “SHARECROPPER to ENTREPRENEUR to PASTOR”, recently released by Resource Publications. I invite you to join me in the experience of sharing this incredible life story and the impact his experiences, with sorrows and joys, laughter and tears, failures and successes, can have on young people searching for their destiny.

This book is his personal journey through his life from his miraculous birth, as one of eleven children born to “sharecroppers”; to his own experiment with that life style; to his escape from the life of sharecropping. It explores: his unexpendable job in the military (Navy); his role as a loving husband, father, family man, son and brother; his reinvention of himself (no longer that quiet boy of his high school days) as a “risk taking”, “gutsy”, “determined”, “financially successful” entrepreneur, who started with a “BMB” – Bucket, Mop and Buffer”; his call to the ministry and his inescapable destiny to become a “Pastor” (of Metropolitan Baptist Church of Dorchester, Mass). Never was he discouraged by the hardships he faced as a result of the color of his skin, even questioning why God made him black, but he was determined not to let that hold him back, not to let that kill his dreams. At no time was he “not” led by his faith in God and his belief that God had great plans for his life and that he “dared not follow”.

In the midst of the unbelievable schedule that became characteristic of himself and his family, he found time, interest, joy, pleasure and comfort in owning and participating in the RV lifestyle. Eventually, he becomes President of The National African American RVer’s Association, Inc. (NAARVA).

In his eventful life story, with its twists and turns, he uses his experiences in all of these venues to learn something about life; about being a Black man in America ; about being a Black entrepreneur; about being a Pastor, as is evident by the message he puts forth in the chapters he entitled “the Ten Vital Lessons I Learned…..”. He shares with the reader the personal value and satisfaction he got from doing community service, and his ability as a visionary to find a comparison between the job of the Sharecropping and the role of serving Christ.

He ends his journey through an enviable life to a “blessed retirement”, but he is still learning, teaching, preaching and giving back. He serves as an undeniable role model for young Black men and women, as he commands them to dream dreams, set goals, believe in themselves, persevere, and never to let anyone tell them they cannot do something. And, above all let God lead the way. He believes that “God allowed a ‘mess’ for him to bring about the best in him”.

His prayer, “may the work that I have done speak for me”, is still being answered in his retirement as he creates a new “Mobile Ministry” to help underprivileged youth to become Christian Entrepreneurs. He will one day leave a legacy that will be hard to emulate.
